William Moores: Beyond the cliffs: a journey to empowerment
Chief Executive, Canadian Association for Financial Empowerment From beyond the cliffs of a rural island in Canada, to leading the federal certification body, William has served as a former Chair in support of enhanced professional development in the United States, William blends lived experience with systems-level leadership. A direct descendant of the Southern Inuit of NunatuKavut, and a proud member of multiple marginalized groups, he advocates with the authenticity of experience, carrying forward the message that those who have lived through exclusion are uniquely prepared to lead clients beyond transactions to transformation.
He calls attention to the many who, through financial manipulation, unethical marketing, and predatory lending, to restore the nutrients from the very communities in which their services thrived. As debt profiles climb and credit capacity weakens, far too often our communities are left depleted, lacking the vital nutrients to grow and yield prosperity. This imbalance leaves the helpers, our mentors, to pick up the pieces of individuals and families who are often misunderstood and othered, creating cycles of poverty rather than healthy, rehabilitated, empowered contributors who simply needed to be seen in the totality of who they are.
William’s work responds to this injustice with a call for reciprocity, ethical standards, and social responsibility for human decency for all. He works to build bridges and infrastructure that not only protects but dignifies. He stands for every practitioner who wants to serve with integrity, code of ethics and personified Standards of Practice. We must all stand and be the voice for every community and people(s) that’s been left behind by systems that forgot their humanity. William's message is simple and deeply felt; you do not need permission to stand in your truth. The cliffs that once marked the end of our limits can, with care, become the place where everything blooms.
